Objective –

Agricultural mechanization has played an important role in self-sufficiency in Agriculture sector in India. Farm mechanization also enables conservation of inputs, reduces unit energy of operation, increases productivity and removes drudgery and hazards to human and animals. Mechanization of farm operations for crop production has necessitated the use of appropriate machinery for timeliness in field operations and affective application of production inputs by optimizing the output of human, animal and mechanical/electrical power sources. The approach to mechanization in production agriculture of country has been based on improved equipment and enhanced power supply. Compared to mechanization in other parts of country such as Punjab, Hariyana, Western UP, Tamil Nadu, AP which has substituted human labour and drought animals with mechanical prime movers, the very approach is mechanizing Chhattisgarh agriculture has been to maintain a practical mix of labour drought animal power and mechanical/electrical power. The power mix approach will eliminate the risk of labour displacement and more so changed he nature of farm tasks to make those more applicable to the young generation.

In the era of energy crises due to depletion of non-renewable fossil fuel reserves, the renewable energy has to play an important role in years to come. In present line of farming production some amount of agro residue can be diverted from efficient utilization to produce power. Some residue are partially used in house hold cooking and as cattle feed. A huge quantity of cattle dung is available in rural area for generating green energy for the self-sufficient village. The utilization of farm waste by adopting different options such as biomethanation, thermo chemical route etc will provide ample opportunities for rural employment and income generation.

The government is committed to provide more thrust to food processing and agro based industries in an endeavour to increase the income of farmers, create more employment opportunities, and faster rural industrialization. This sector is recognized as having an important role in improving agricultural productivity, reducing wastage of fruits, vegetables and other perishable food items and improving food availability for domestic consumption as well as export.

Conservation and judicious management of natural resources such as soil and water are paramount important for sustainable production. Indicators show that renewable source of energy like water, forest, soil and fisheries are under extreme pressure due to our current farming practices. Failure to manage these resources sustainably and equitably in main cases leads to conflict and disasters.

Farm mechanization, processing and food engineering, renewable energy, soil and water conservation engineering, land and water management, irrigation water management and watershed management issues will be discussed by the experts during the seminar.
